Whether or not you were a Hillary Clinton supporter, it’s hard to deny that her historic run for President gave girls and women a picture we’ve never had before–a picture of a woman candidate who was a serious contender for the highest office in our country.
Now a new film, “What’s Your Point, Honey?”, introduces some amazing girl leaders whose names you might see on a ballot in the not-so-distant future. The movie was named after a cartoon showing Hillary Clinton pointing to a globe that highlights all the countries where women are heads of state. A man standing next to her asks (yep, you guessed it), “what’s your point, honey?” Well, the point is that there are plenty of women who are capable and qualified to hold public office. Unfortunately, in the U.S., the number of women who do is dismally low. Today, women represent just 16 percent of Congress, 26 percent of state legislators, and nine out of 50 governors. Shifting those numbers means that we must empower girls to see themselves as candidates.
Could you see yourself running for office? What issues would make up your platform?
