Claire has traveled coast to coast speaking to girls and women about body image, self-esteem, media literacy and leadership. She draws on her own life experiences to connect with audiences and each appearance is designed to give attendees concrete action steps that they can use in their daily lives.
Claire is available as a keynote speaker. She also delivers interactive workshops (from 1-2 hours or more intensive day-long formats) and moderates panel discussions. Appearances can be planned to include a book signing of one or both of Claire’s books.
For more information on how you can bring Claire to your school, college, conference or moms group, please contact email@example.com. She works closely with each client to develop a presentation that meet your specific needs. Below is a list of sample topics, all of which can be adapted or modified.
America’s Next Top Role Models: Empowering Girls to Be Their Best Selves
Today’s girls feel increasing pressures to measure up to conflicting expectations about what they should look like, how they should act, and who they should be. Drawing from the key points in her award-winning book, You’re Amazing!, this workshop gives girls the tools they need to confront all those “shoulds” and start discovering their own powerful voices.
FOR NEW MOMS AND MOMS-TO-BE
Body Image 101 for New Moms and Moms-to-Be
Mothers can play a central role in promoting positive body image and smart eating habits in their children. And moms who feel good about their own bodies will be much more prepared to help girls and boys resist unhealthy messages about beauty and weight. But adopting that positive attitude is no easy task in our “get your pre-baby body back quick” culture. This workshop gives moms and moms-to-be the knowledge and inspiration to confront unhealthy media messages and begin to address their own beauty and body image concerns in a safe and supportive environment. Interactive workshop or panel discussion. Ideal for moms groups.
FOR MOTHERS & DAUGHTERS
Shiny, Happy People: How the Beauty, Fashion and Diet Industries Sell Fantasy
Feel Great! Look Beautiful! Be Sexy! Who can pass up those promises– especially when they’re presented in colorful pages packed with gorgeous smiles, stylish clothes, and toned bodies? This presentation educates audiences about how advertising campaigns and editorials are carefully designed to sell us on the myth that the right lip gloss, moisturizer, or workout will change our lives. Hands-on media literacy activities engage mothers and daughters in the mission of developing a healthy approach to beauty, nutrition and fitness together.
Confronting Perfectionism: Nurturing “Supergirls” into “Amazing Girls”
Supergirls make mistakes and agonize over them. Amazing girls make mistakes and learn from them. Supergirls take on too much and want adults to think they are happy, even when they are anxious or sad. Amazing girls know how to set boundaries and ask for help from the adults in their lives. Educators and advocates have a key role to play when it comes to preventing supergirls from growing up into overworked, overstressed superwomen. This workshop offers essential strategies to help break the cycle of perfectionism that prevents so many girls from reaching their full potential.
